Hello all Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Callie Craig, and this is my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru! Starting this fall, I will be a sophomore Public Relations major at DePaul University in Chicago. The number of reasons I love DePaul are innumerable, but one of my favorite aspects is the wide variety of style seen around campus. In the Windy City, nothing is off limits. Style boundaries are pushed aside, and every trend is tested and personalized.
Having grown up so close to the city that I now call home, my style always been influenced by this dress-for-yourself attitude. Fashion is such a wonderful outlet for personal growth because it is so universal, but every single style is different and unique in its own way. Your style shows off who you are without having to conform to anyone else’s style. Watching a skater skirt transform from being paired with chunky boots and a graphic T-shirt to being paired with a button-down gingham top and strappy heels is what makes fashion so interesting. One piece can be used for so many different looks, and each one can stand out from one another.
While I do love my school and the fashion statements that come with it, those aren’t the only things I’m passionate about. You can usually find me at my Chicago apartment making waffles (or any other breakfast food, no matter what the time of day), photographing my friends or attending a concert. I love live music, whether it is seeing one of my favorite bands perform or finding a local show around town. Each of these passions is incorporated into my everyday look (okay, maybe not breakfast foods). Both music and street photography greatly influence my personal style.
As August comes to a close, it is now time to transition from short sleeves and gladiator sandals to ripped jeans and layering pieces. With this look, I’m still ready for the heat with my skater skirt and sleeveless denim vest, but I am bringing in some fall pieces. My suede ankle boots are definitely going to be a wardrobe staple in these upcoming months, along with thin, layered jewelry.
This fall, join me as I roam the streets of Chicago in search of outstanding Fashionistas/os!
