Welcome fashion gals and gents! My name is Carin Bernard and I am a proud 23-year-old senior at the University of Connecticut. I am an Economics major and a Mathematics minor with an armature background in painting and sketching. Due to a slight shortage in credits I had to take two summer courses in order to officially become a UConn graduate. Luckily for me, my “credit issue” has made me eligible to be your fashion Guru from now until August.
Growing up, visual arts through clothing has always been something I was very passionate about. I always wanted to wear clothes that had a little “oomph” to them, but back then the styles I wanted to wear were not in my size bracket. However, I never accepted defeat! Over the years, I developed skills in designing various styles of clothing that were plus-size friendly. I also have experience with thrift shopping and reconstructing clothes to design costumes or to just bring an old outfit back to life. Once I rack up enough coins, I will be able to bring my creations to life; all I need is a sewing machine!
Although I’m still pretty new to studying the styles of high end brands such as Vera Wang and Dolce&Gabbana, I have learned so much about combining different elements in order to create a single look. Styles that inspire me are those showcased by companies such as New York and Company, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21 and Fashion to Figure—did I mention I was a firm believer of looking fabulous on a budget?
I hope you all are prepared for a summer of color and random shapes because my blog will be filled with it all summer long! But don’t worry, there will be some classy professional element along the way as well. Cheers!
