Hello to all of you lovely Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Carla and I am so excited to once again be a Style Guru for this upcoming spring semester! I am currently a junior at Loyola University Chicago and I am majoring in nursing and minoring in psychology. I’m going to be real with you here: nursing school is hard. No joke. It’s probably one of the hardest majors to ever study and the profession itself is incredibly demanding. Nevertheless, I am in love with everything about it. From meeting inspiring patients to running to grab that crash cart, to setting up IV lines and experiencing that incredible feeling when that patient you once took care of visits you to say thank you. In my opinion, nursing is the best profession out there.
Along with my strong passion for nursing, I also have a strong passion for fashion. I am specifically interested in fashion merchandising and blogging. Currently, my favorite blogger is Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. I love how her style is so chic and how she is able to incorporate vintage fashion with the new. She, along with Olivia Palermo, are definitely my inspiration when it comes to my taste in clothing.
My personal style is basically what you see here: simple and chic. Living in Chicago in December calls for turtlenecks! I love this black turtleneck from H&M because it’s lightweight, but keeps me warm. I tucked in my black turtleneck with my high waisted jeans from Topshop. These jeans are probably one of my favorite pair of jeans because they’re incredibly comfortable due to the stretchy material! To complete the look, I wore my black over-the-knee boots from Unisa Saranaa, kept the jewelry at a minimal with a silver necklace and added a bold touch with a dark purple lip.
In my eyes, fashion is art. It is more than just putting together a simple outfit. It’s about mixing and matching patterns and colors, taking risks and expressing oneself. Each outfit is a work of art. Well, maybe not during finals week, but most of the time that statement applies. Overall, fashion is everlasting, constantly revolving and you’re able to get a little dose of an individual’s personality. With that said, I’m so excited to discover new outfits and get to know people better, starting with their clothing. Show me your style, Chicago!
