Hello, lovelies! My name is Carly Kennedy, and I am more than pumped to be a Style Guru this semester! I am a sophomore, about to begin my second semester at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri, after having transferred from their Madrid campus in the fall. My major is international business with minors in Spanish and marketing (for I have hopes of living abroad again). I am a Kappa Delta, and I spend a hefty majority of my time on YouTube and/or online shopping…whoops!
My wardrobe is a combination of clothes that have been passed on to me from my grandmother and Zara. This may sound conflicting, but I definitely got my sense of style along with my love a shopping from my grandma. I love the idea of pieces having such a personal touch and character about them, which add an even greater sense of pride when wearing them.
I would consider my style to be more vintage, retro, and am so inspired by European fashion. Back in high school, I went all-out with it and stayed true to vintage style, yet as I’ve gotten a bit older, I try to add more of a modern flare. I still almost always have something vintage on me, though.  A common response to wear I got an ascot or top from, “Oh, it was my grandma’s!”
When it comes to personal style, use it as a way to express your personality and interests without using words. Wear what makes you happy and confident and proud of who you are as an individual. I’ve definitely caught some flak for certain outfits I’ve worn going out or to school, but it’s just because it’s not what people are used to seeing. That means you’re doing it properly.
As I mentioned, it is definitely safe to classify me as being a shopaholic, for I find myself tracking packages from UPS way more often than one ever should. Recently, my go-to store has been Zara (especially with it being the midst of the winter sales). I, however, also adore Topshop, ASOS, and Primark.
This look is both totally comfortable with the modern-retro blend yet still 100 percent my style. I went for a classic high-waisted jean but mixed it up by it being a culotte, a trend I am fawning over as of late. I tucked in a fun, dog print pajama-esque top and added a copper choker scarf. The final touch was a pair of suede, patchwork boots (similar pair), just to add more color and interest to the look.
I am stoked to share more advice and others’ personal style with you all this semester!
