Hello people of the internet! My name is Caroline McNamara and I am extremely excited to be part of the Guru Gang this semester!
I’m a Jersey girl who went down south to the state of Virginia to study at the University of Richmond. I am in my junior year and I am majoring in leadership studies and classical civilizations. My campus is very much that of a liberal arts school, so you can spot Fashionistas all over campus studying in various fields of study. I can’t wait to share their style with you, as well as my own!
Fashion-wise, I do not have a set style I mainly portray. I would say my personal style is very eclectic. I love to look at different trends to see if I can make them my own. Also, where I am geographically really impacts my style. To me, fashion portrays your inner personality on the outside, Your body is your canvas and you can show who you are through fashion. For me, it is important that at the end of the day, no matter what I’m wearing, I feel like myself.
I think it is very important to stay true to yourself, even in fashion. While it is easy to follow the pack, being yourself, in my opinion, leads to happiness. What works for one person or looks good on another person, may not look good on or work for you. I can’t tell how many times I’ve looked at clothing on a rack or in a magazine and thought it would look great on me or it fit my personality, but that was definitely not the case. I grew up looking to celebrities for fashion and makeup advice, however I’ve learned that being comfortable in your own skin, and what you cover it with, really depends on you.
For this article, I went with a style I think is both comfy and edgy. I’m dressed in a tied grey button-up shirt with a pink faux leather moto jacket on top. For the bottom, I have on black legging jeans and faux suede brown booties. For accessories, I have an Alex and Ani compass necklace.
Working with College Fashionista is an absolutely amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to continue sharing outfits ideas and inspiration with you this semester! Hopefully, my posts will help you find some great ways to spice up your closet.
