STYLE GURU BIO: Cassandra Zimmer

Hello my fellow lovers of fashion, I am Cassandra Zimmer and I am ecstatic to be a part of the CollegeFashionista Style Guru team this semester. I am a proud Illinois Stater who is majoring in Public Relations and is also in the process of rounding out her junior year (Ah!). Does not seem real. With the rapid pace of the school year, fashion has kept up with the change of the seasons. Midwestern weather continues to change the fashion game when it comes to layering up and what sometimes feels like weeks later, has us discarding the coats and cardis for a much cooler attire. That may be one of my most favorite parts of fashion though, the art of change.

Change was happening for me my freshmen year of college when I finally decided to follow my passion and switch majors. The field of nursing, I knew, would be both exciting and rewarding. It seemed I could not wait to be a part of it. However, I knew inside of myself that my soul ached for the chance to be totally immersed in the world of fashion. With having hoarded every single fashion magazine that had crossed my path, giving outfit advice to my sister and friends on various occasions, and being glued in front of my computer screen as soon as the New York Fashion Week videos were up; I knew that fashion was a part of me. It took me a semester to realize that while nursing is a wonderful career, I knew my passion was rooted deeper in a different path. The path that would lead me to my hopeful fashion future.

With all of the change that ensued that semester, I delightfully discovered my love for writing as well. I researched and after a phone call with a fellow Fashionista, I decided on the major of Public Relations. Fashion PR would ultimately give me the best of both worlds; everything fashion and writing. I could not wait to get started. I began to notice that class became so much more enjoyable, knowing that I was learning about the field that I am truly passionate about. The art of fashion has given me an awakening of confidence. With the ever-changing seasons, school years and trends, fashion has always given me a route to express myself.

The Midwest has presented us the beauty of winter. While some may disagree with the term that I described it with, I believe it gives us a whole new opportunity to express ourselves in all of our layering. I like to resort to rich hues such as plum, turquoise and the never-failing mustard to make my accessories stand out. With that my Fashionistas/os, be you, be true and never be afraid to flaunt your favorite hues!
