Hello there Fashionistas/os! My name is Catherine but, everyone just calls me Katie or Katiebug! I am a freshman at Loyola University of Chicago studying communications. I am a first time Style Guru this spring and am so excited to share my favorite trends and beauty tips to all the Fashionistas!
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, fashion has always been a major part of my life. At the young age of 10, my mom opened up a couture women’s clothing boutique in Hinsdale, Illinois. Around the age of 15, I began working at the shop after school and I became passionate about fashion and style. A few times, I was lucky enough to go on buying trips with my mom to New York City and fell in love with the fast paced and energetic world of fashion. I know from my life experiences in fashion that the fashion industry is where I want to pursue my career.
Along with my interests in fashion, I recently discovered the art of photography in my junior year photography class. I looked forward to going to my photography class every day because it was my creative outlet during a stressful school day. Photography was a class that helped me demonstrate my vision and perspective on images of nearly anything. I began bringing my camera to the store and capturing strong fashion shots that told a story and helped me express my personal style.
My style changes nearly every day since I don’t have to wear a pleated skirt five days a week anymore (Catholic high school). Somedays I can be edgy with dark clothes and dark lips and other times I want to be super feminine in a barbie like dress and pumps. My go-to outfit is wearing all-black from head to toe with a Rebecca Minkoff purse or a flashy necklace. It’s easy and looks put together. All-black everything has always been a sharp look that can be heavily accessorized and always gives off that “cool girl” vibe.
