Hello, Fashionistas/os! I am a third year college student originating from Chicago but residing in Columbia, Missouri. Currently I’m studying journalism at the University of Missouri and am headed onto my third semester as a style guru intern! I tend to describe myself as a velvet enthusiast, trend setter and mom jean advocator.
Ever since I first jumped on board with CollegeFashionista, it’s safe to say my style has altered in certain ways. As cliché as it may sound, I am a firm believer that every Fashionista/o’s style changes almost every day. In the generation in which we live, everyone seems to be influenced by the styles of certain decades. I am continuously seeing trendsetters, myself included, embody unique styles from the ’70s and ’90s. Fashionistas/os are creatively incorporating elements of these decades into their everyday looks, but with a modern twist as well.
So what is my style then? If we had to compare my style with fictional television characters, I would say Rachel Green mixed with Angela Chase and Rayanne Graff, which all in all sums up a grunge mom look. For my featured outfit, my goal was to incorporate layers that brought together my whole look. The spaghetti strapped dress underneath a solid white t-shirt reflected styles from the ’90s. This was a bold move on my part as I have never experimented with these two articles of clothing together before. To complete the bottom half my look, I incorporated mid-calf black socks with my platform black sneakers with a basic heart necklace. To finish the outfit off, I wore my backpack purse and, of course, a velvet scrunchy.
It’s safe to say that this semester with CollegeFashionista will be another great learning experience, and I am excited to share my experience with you all. Style on!
