Hey guys, my name is Christy, and I’m a senior at The University of Texas at Austin. I’m an English major with a minor in creative writing, and I’m so excited to be combining my loves of writing and fashion this semester as a Style Guru.
When I’m not spending my time writing analytical essays or short stories for class, I work as a staff writer for Spark Magazine, a high fashion magazine run by students at UT Austin. So my fingers are pretty much always glued to a keyboard. Although I spend a lot of my time writing, I also spend a lot of my time listening to music. I draw most of my fashion inspiration from music, whether it be a vibe-y song or a cool music video. I collect influences from everything I see and hear and store them in a fashion vault that is inside my brain.
Most of my fashion icons are musicians like Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Perrie Edwards. I do also look at people like Jenn Im and Kylie Jenner (you’ve got to admit, the girl knows how to put together a look) for style inspo as well.
I would describe my style as what happens when minimalism meets bohemian and falls into a time warp that lands them in the ’90s. This flowy and floral off-the-shoulder top and western style double buckled belt are both very bohemian. The mix of textures and patterns bring that ’60s flare to this look. My choker and denim skirt bring in that classic ’90s style that’s made a huge comeback lately (much to my delight). My little lace-up flats and dainty necklace finish off the outfit with a minimalist touch. I don’t think that anyone’s personal style has to be defined as just one thing, and I like mixing all my influences together. Fashion is an extension of your personality, so it shouldn’t be one note; it should be as multifaceted as you —at least that’s how I see it anyway.
Make sure you check back here every month to see the Fashionistas and Fashionistos that I see around campus, and follow me on social media to keep up with what I’m getting into this semester.
