Bonjour readers, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! Let me introduce myself. I’m Claudia, but some call me “polka-dot” due to my love for the fun pattern that occupies half of my wardrobe. I have loved spunky fashion ever since my mom allowed me to dress myself in pink jelly shoes and Disney-inspired clip on earrings. My style has evolved a lot since then. However, jelly shoes are back in style and once again, reside in my closet. I find it hard to pinpoint someone’s particular style, especially mine. I adore kate spade’s colorful, girly style, Joan Jett’s leather and tough essence and vintage A-line skirts inspired by Sandy from Grease. I somehow try to balance all of these eclectic styles in my daily looks.
Speaking of vintage skirts, I wore one of my favorites today in vibrant orange. It is sleek, tweed and fabulous. Paired with a white on white lace cropped tank top, it resembles the two-piece tank top and skirt sets that are oh-so-popular right now. The skirt is so versatile that I was able to pull it up to make it shorter and a bit more youthful. You can find skirts like these anywhere: thrift shops, consignment stores or even your grandmother’s closet! Pair the look with colorful, fun jewelry to update the look in a modern and classic way.
Typing this as an official Style Guru for CollegeFashionista is almost as exciting as the day I got into the college of my dreams, Drake University. Come August, I will be a junior studying Journalism and Graphic Design. I hope to one day be a fashion editor for a major magazine in the fabulous NYC, and every day, I am one small step closer. I have a few obsessions in life: one being Paris, despite the fact I cannot speak a lick of French, vinyl albums (thanks dad for your massive collection); ice cream, which I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner; Spotify, because I could not function without music in my ears; books, because they allow me to travel, wonder and learn without having to travel far and wide.
Born and raised in the cornfield filled Midwest gave me a love for the simple things in life like antiquing on a Sunday and eating cookies on my grandma’s porch on a Monday. The Midwest, my family and their values made me who I am today and I am so happy to be here. I can’t wait to see where my time as a Style Guru takes me, my closet and my future, but I hope you all enjoy the wild ride that is to ensue!
