Hi everyone! My name is Colleen Gaughran and I am currently a sophomore at Marist College studying Business Administration with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. I am extremely excited to be starting my internship with CollegeFashionista this semester and to be able to showcase the diverse styles of Marist’s finest Fashionistas/os!
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved playing dress up. To this day, I can spend hours in the fitting rooms of my favorite stores trying on clothes and shoes. Growing up as an Irish step dancer, I was always surrounded by intricately designed dresses featuring bold colors and fabrics and that environment has led to my current passion for design.  I’ve always loved taking note of how Irish dancers’ personalities shine through their custom made dance costumes. Walking around campus, I have developed a keen eye for those students who use their style as an expression of themselves.
Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication” and I believe that this is particularly relevant in terms of fashion. I tend to gravitate toward simple pieces that can be styled in a variety of ways. Â I consider my style classic, preppy and very girly! It is important to always look chic and polished while still comfortable. I love pieces that never go out of style, but I love to experiment with new trends from the runway.
Some of my fashion icons are Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf. My favorite designers are Valentino Garvavani, kate spade and Ralph Lauren. While history is my least favorite subject in school, I’ve always loved looking at fashion trends from each decade to see how old styles become revamped and incorporated into modern looks.
I am looking forward to this semester as a Style Guru reporting the latest fashion trends from my campus. Follow my weekly posts to keep up with the trendiest students on Marist’s own runway!
