Hey there! My name is Corinne McGovern and I am a freshman majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Marist College. Born and raised in New York, I have always had a remarkable fascination for fashion. I consider myself an avid adventurer when it comes to life and more importantly, when it comes to my style.
I have never been able decide on one style that best defines me. You’ll see me strutting around in a high-waisted skirt, button-down and a vest one day and then distressed boyfriend jeans and a crop top the next. Changing my look daily gives me the amazing opportunity to experiment with a bit of everything. Lately, I have been trying to simplify my wardrobe and stick to basics that can be mixed and matched with trendier pieces to create a style that is all my own. Every day I try something new. I draw inspiration from fashion blogs, the newest series I’m watching on Netflix and even from people I pass on my way to class. If something draws my eye, I use it as inspiration and find a way to creatively incorporate it into my outfits.
A few brands I’m loving at the moment are Zara, Brandy Melville, Topshop and Madewell. I find that they all have great basics that can be incorporated into any wardrobe no matter what look you’re going for. When in doubt, I hit the Zara in my mall to find the latest and greatest trends. They always have something edgy and fun that I can transform and that will adhere to my style of the day.
And so, my fellow Fashionistas/os, I dare you to try something new today. In the words of Gwyneth Paltrow, “It’s a very important part of life to make big changes, scare yourself and see what happens.” Take a risk and surprise yourself because the best things are found outside of your comfort zone. I am hoping that my posts will inspire you to do just that!
