Why, hello there. The name’s Danielle and I’m a Fashion Merchandising Student at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. I am double minoring in Public Relations and Women and Gender’s Studies. I am so excited to be a Style Guru Intern for CollegeFashionista this fall semester. I hope to show a lot of diversity to you guys throughout this semester with some inspiring looks!
I grew up in a tiny town here in West Virginia where the hottest print to wear was camouflage. I knew at an early age that I was “that quirky girl.” I was always experimenting with my clothing and accessories. I would wear crazy prints and headbands with antennas or cat ears. I thought everyone looked the same, and I wanted to be different. I wanted to set my own trends and be my own inspiration.
I attribute my personal style to my college years. In the past few years, my confidence has blossomed and so has my wardrobe. My friends know me best for year-round floral prints, dresses/skirts to the max and having the biggest lipstick collection in town. I thoroughly enjoy changing my look up. I do this by taking inspiration from just about everything such as: holidays, past decades, movies, art or even the month.
When I chose this outfit for my STYLE GURU BIO, I was inspired by my favorite month: October! I absolutely adore fall and Halloween. I also enjoy looking like a witch and which better month to rock that look than October?! I am wearing a sheer orange button-up blouse and a chiffon floral print skater skirt. Both of these items are from the department store, JCPenney. On my feet are pink turn cuff socks and black oxfords with sheer panels on the side. For my jewelry, I chose an amethyst stone ring that makes me feel magical and spider earrings to bring out the creepiness in my October-inspired ensemble.
People tend to think that floral patterns only work for summer or spring. As you can see in my outfit here, just try some darker colored floral prints. Most of my silhouettes tend to be high-waisted. This is why I chose to wear my skirt higher up and my blouse tucked in. The finishing touch for this outfit is my purple lip wear. I feel naked without lipstick and I have almost every color under the sun. This Pansy Purple matte liquid lipstick is from Lime Crime and it’s definitely a must-have in my book for fall.
Well, that’s all folks. I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me and I hope you return to see some of the amazing Fashionistas/os that I find on the streets of Morgantown.
I would like to end with a quote from one of my favorite fashion icons of all time, Iris Apfel:
“When you don’t dress like everybody else, you don’t have to think like everybody else.”
