STYLE GURU BIO: Deborah Lopez

I guess I should start with hello, my name is…

That’s how most of these start, but if I’m truly going to tell you about myself, I should start with the fact that I am a bit of a rule breaker—a societal nonconformist, if you will. So, I won’t start with the usual, “hello my name is blank and I’m part of this semester’s CollegeFashionista team;” You already know most of that.

I’ll start with my school, Ryerson University, at which I study Fashion Communications. Also, I’m a searcher of serendipitous moments and a creative mess. You should know that when I say, “I’m a creative mess,” I don’t mean that in the artsy, metaphorical sense. I am quite literally a mess of creativity with not enough outlets to express myself. And that’s why I joined CollegeFashionista. That and because I feel that my university’s campus truly has some of the best style around.

Most of the time, Toronto gets overlooked as a prominent fashion city. Being so close to New York, Toronto gets eclipsed by the former’s own lavish fashion scene. We may not have grade A celebrities sitting front row at our fashion weeks, (besides Jeremy Laing, Canadian fashion designers are pretty much unknown), but we’re getting there.

During my time as a CollegeFashionista, I want to show you how great Toronto and the fashion at Ryerson University is as well as how local designers, shops and styles are better than what you’d expect; These things are an integral part of who I am, as a local girl with love for local style. I may have a flare for the dramatic and I feel slightly more comfortable in boys’ clothes, but my love for fashion is unmatched.

This is me in a nutshell. My name is Deborah and I can’t wait to share all my favorite local styles with you this semester.
