STYLE GURU BIO: Deionna Edmunds

Hello, Fashionistas/os. My name is Deionna and I’m a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University here in Richmond, Virginia, and this is my first semester interning with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru! I spent the first half of my college career undecided, but with much thought I have decided to major in Business Marketing.

While I have always loved shopping and buying new clothes, I had never really considered doing something that involved fashion, until I started college. I knew I didn’t want to do something as permanent as pursuing a Fashion major, so I threw around the idea of a fashion blog or Instagram account, and ended up here! I’m excited to have the opportunity to use CollegeFashionista as an outlet for not only my fashion, but also to share the style diversity of Fashionistas/os here at VCU.

As far as my own style goes, it honestly just depends on the day. My closet is a mix of so many different types of clothing, I usually end up just mixing them and coming up with a style of my own. My favorite colors to wear are black, which never goes out of style, and burgundy, which has become very popular recently. Thankfully, fall is coming up, and with it brings the opportunity to layer on the sweaters and scarves with a cute pair of booties. Something about the smell of leaves (and pumpkin-spiced lattes?) in the air makes dressing up for class much more fun, especially when you don’t have to worry about sweating across campus.

However, since the weather is still a little too warm to be stuck in a sweater all day, it’s best to transition through the season by making little adjustments in your wardrobe. My personal go-to fashion pieces are black skinny jeans and a nice statement necklace. I feel that when you have a good pair of black jeans as your canvas, such as the ones I’m wearing here, it makes working out all the other details of your outfit super easy. Working at T.J.Maxx, I always find the cutest (affordable) pieces, like this faux suede top! The black jeans perfectly complemented the scallop detailing at the bottom of the shirt. From there, it was just adding my favorite pair of black fringe booties, similar to these, and layering a beaded turquoise necklace like this one up top!

That being said, I look forward to sharing more about fashion trends through my eyes here at my university this upcoming semester!
