Hi everybody! My name is Derek and I am a sophomore attending the University of North Texas where I study fashion merchandising. This is my first semester being involved with CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to start showing off some of the inspirational individuals I interact with daily. I love fashion photography and writing, and I hope you all will join me as I explore some of the more sleek and unique styles that are involved in my life.
Personal style, in my mind, is a window to the soul. You can tell a lot about a person based on how they dress, groom, and present themselves. I learned this at a very young age, and because of this, all my life I have been trying to perfect portraying the qualities about myself that I think are unique and interesting, as well as help grow self-confidence in my day-to-day life. I wasn’t always an outgoing, super social person. When I was little I found it difficult to relate to people and talk to those outside my comfort zone. However, when I discovered fashion, this gave me a completely new avenue to express myself, and when I dressed up for the first time I felt like nobody could stop me. This empowerment I experienced because of fashion truly changed my life, and my ultimate goal is to help those who were like me feel that same empowerment I discovered through style. The way I dress fluctuates daily as I experience life, but I think that a beautiful thing about fashion and the way we dress is that it changes just as often as we do, and this is really important to me.
For my look, I took my favorite piece of all time, the classic black and white striped shirt, and layered it under a tan button up jacket. I then wanted some color contrast, so I put on my favorite pair of black skinny jeans, and added a black and white scarf in order to keep me warm and add some depth. I added a couple of simple bracelets, and to complete my look I wore one of my favorite items this year, my tan, suede desert boots (which, contrary to their name are actually a fantastic cold weather option!)
I hope you guys love this cozy outfit, and can draw some inspiration from it in order to create your own cold weather looks! To stay up to date with me, be sure to follow me on my social media platforms! I have a lot more coming your way.
