Ciao, Fashionistas/os! My name is Devon McCaffrey and I will be spending this semester studying in gorgeous Florence, Italy. This will be my second semester as a Style Guru, and I am so excited to share the trends I find from halfway across the world. During my time abroad, I plan to explore many places in Europe, including some of the fashion capitals of the world–Milan, Paris and London. I can’t wait to observe European street fashion while sipping cappuccinos and eating lots of yummy pizza.
I am now entering my spring semester as a junior at Marist College, where I am majoring in Fashion Merchandising, with a concentration in Product Development. I have recently finished courses in Product Development and Trend Forecasting, both of which taught me a lot of valuable information regarding fashion and trends. Throughout these courses, I noticed many lessons that would be applicable to my time spent abroad. My teacher for Trend Forecasting showed us thousands of pictures that she had collected on trips abroad. Her advice was to “photograph everything,” and that is exactly what I plan to do when I am studying in Italy.
In terms of my personal style, I can honestly say it has evolved since my last stint as an intern for CollegeFashionista. As of recently, I am more drawn to black or neutrals, simple silhouettes and minimalist pieces. I draw fashion inspiration from an array of style icons including the Olsen twins, Kendall Jenner and Alexa Chung.
Outside of my fashion interests, I enjoy dancing as well as teaching dance to young kids. This is probably one of the things I will miss most when going abroad. There will be sacrifices, but I cannot wait to drink in the rich culture and share all of my fashion findings from Florence and the rest of Europe. Arrivederci!
