Hey Fashionistas/os! I’m Doris and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I’m a transfer student majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations at Syracuse University. I am a seed of the Big Apple and a total New Yorker at heart. My goal is to one day return back to my stomping grounds in Uptown Manhattan and live out my Sex and the City fantasy life.
I never questioned I would be a writer. I have always known I would be a writer. The question was always what I would write about. It wasn’t until my late teens when I grew out of an awkward phase with my body image that I knew I wanted to write to empower others. What better way to do so than fashion, right? At the time I had completed my first year at my previous university and I just knew that university wasn’t for me. So, I decided to drop out three weeks into my sophomore year not knowing much of what I was going to do. I did know I wanted to embark on the journey of becoming a writer and building a solid foundation to do so. I ended taking a year off from my studies. In that year, I developed my very own brand and website and was admitted into my dream university. I guess you can say there is nothing I wouldn’t do to fulfill this dream of mine.
As excited and honored I am to be called a Style Guru, I don’t want you to be fooled by what you see. I have come a long way in learning how to dress and style this curvy body of mine. I have had my fair share of hits and misses when it comes to fashion but, I like to think I’ve got it down pack now-a-days. My style is ever-evolving but my minimalistic ways are always present. I love neutral colors, classic denim and basic pieces. I love clean cut looks with hints of texture.
When it comes to accessorizing, I love to do so with my hair and make-up. A polished face and groomed hair can make any outfit. Which leads to my obsession with make-up. During my year off from school, I worked as a beauty advisor and gained tons of experience and knowledge from industry experts. I could go on all day about make-up, hair and skincare but I’ll have tons of information on all that good stuff on my website.
I have so much to share with you all. From style inspiration for all you plus size Fashionistas out there to all the looks of the oh so stylist students at Syracuse University. I have tons of awesome post ideas for this semester and hope you all check back every Wednesday for my newest articles. Be sure to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook (where all the fun and fashion continues). I look forward to connecting with you all.
