Hello CollegeFashionista! My name is Dottie Kramer, I am a rising junior at Ohio University, studying Journalism, with a minor in Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Development, and a certificate in Political Communications (yes, I know. It’s a mouthful).
I have always been a “Fashionista” (at least, according to my Grams), which is why I naturally floated towards having an internship within fashion (hence, CollegeFashionista). In high school, I would play dress up every week to pick out my “theme” for the week (boho, classic, preppy, glam, etc.).
I am a Maryland girl, living in a Midwestern world. The fashions of larger cities that I’m accustomed to (Baltimore, D.C, etc) don’t blend in, in Athens, a town mostly centered on the college. Sweatpants may run ramped in a college town, but not in my life. However, I don’t mind standing out, as long as it’s for my style.
I’ve always loved running (sporty style is so chic!), dance (the costumes inspire me), and art (viewing it and wearing it, not creating it; I’m not very artsy).
Summer is the greatest season, because of all the light clothing. It’s a time to feel confident in your body and to play with different colors and makeup. Plus, vintage bathing suits make style feel effortless. Trying out a new style for the season is easy, fun and commitment free!
My inspiration stems from popular culture; Pretty Little Liars (Aria, all the way), Gossip Girl and the all mighty Vogue. Oh, and old Hollywood, especially the makeup (thank you, Audrey Hepburn).
You can tell a Dottie Kramer original outfit by three aspects: 1. It’s bold. 2. It is cuffed (I’m 4’11). 3. It sparkles. My favorite fashion rule: don’t buy it if you can’t think of three outfits you can wear it with.
I have a second internship in D.C (yes, the nation’s capital), so you lovely readers will be getting a dose of capital fashion every Thursday to see how the (fashion) odds, can be ever in your favor.
