Hey y’all! My name is Eileen Salazar. I am a sophomore at Howard University majoring in Journalism minoring in Graphic Design. I am beyond excited to be joining the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru. This internship is a great opportunity since it allows me to combine my three passions: journalism, photography and fashion into one!
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas where cowboy boots and denim rule the city. I am glad that I decided to go to college out of state because I have been exposed to so many different styles from around the nation. Being that I go to Howard (ranked number two for best dressed colleges by The Huffington Post), I’ve grown to love very eclectic looks. The fashion at Howard is so different that it is inevitable to experiment with an array of styles.
I always say that my style is a “casual slay” or “tomboy-chic.” Meaning that I like to mix pieces, such as a pencil skirt, that normally would be styled more formally but instead adding accessories to give the outfit a more casual feel. Here I am wearing a green crop top, a thrifted gray pencil skirt, Vans Sk8-Hi with Vans cheetah socks and a denim hat. This outfit is the definition of “tomboy-chic.”
Outside of CollegeFashionista, I will be starting my blog, The Tomboy Chronicles, in the fall. Here you will be able to find all things fashion, music and anything in between. Nonetheless, I am thrilled to be writing for CollegeFashionista!
As Rachel Zoe once said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”
Keep up with my posts this semester to follow the trends on my campus.
