I’m back! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Eileen Salazar. I’m originally form the city that birthed Queen Beyonce: H-tiiiine. On a serious note, I am from Houston, Texas but currently reside in Washington, D.C for school. I am a junior journalism major and graphic design minor at the illustrious Howard University. This is my third semester with CollegeFashionista.
Some life goals include working for The Fader, XXL, Nylon and a ton of other places, but that list would go on forever. Ultimately, I want to start my own magazine, like Seventeen, for Afro-Latinas. Yea—you read right—I said Afro-Latinas. If you couldn’t tell by my last name, I am 100 percent Colombian; both my parents were born and raised in Buenaventura, Colombia. I want to be like the Oprah Winfrey with a Spanish twist of my generation.
In the past year, I launched my personal blog The Tomboy Chronicles. The Tomboy Chronicles (TTC) is a blog for the modern-day fashionable tomboy. TTC is not a blog for the girl who is brand obsessed, it’s a blog for the girl who is all about the styling of a piece whether it is two dollars or 1,000 dollars. Also, I created a three-part web series called Tus Parceros. Tus Parceros featured 11 Afro-Latinos giving insight on what it’s like growing up Afro-Latin in America.
Now for the reason you’re all here: the outfit.
I paired a yellow dress from Fashion Nova, a black leather jacket and ankle high black booties from Ego Official. What I love about this look is that it can be transformed into a more casual look or night time/party look by swapping out a few items. For a more casual look, switch the ankle booties for hightop black converse and the leather jacket for a black bomber jacket or parka. For a party look, simply rid of the leather jacket (unless it’s cold outside) add a choker and an envelope clutch.
