STYLE GURU BIO: Eliza Huber

Hey, lovelies! I’m currently heading into my sophomore year as a transfer student at the University of Iowa. It’s a big difference from the Windy City where I spent my freshman year, but my life is constantly changing to keep things exciting and new. Many people have this notion that fashion resides only in big cities, but I’ve learned quickly that this notion is false. I am determined to show the world that there are Fashionistas/os everywhere. At the University of Iowa, I am studying business management in order to learn what it takes to rule the endlessly changing fashion business.

When people ask the question: “When did you know you wanted to work in fashion”, I always think back to a story my mom used to tell me. We were at the Gap and while still in my stroller, I began flipping through the racks like the most experienced shopper in the world. She knew then and there that my shopping would be trouble for her for years to come.

I’ll never be ashamed that I am a shopaholic. It doesn’t always make my life easy, but it does make it enjoyable. I spend my weekends at estate sales, consignment shops and flea markets, hoping to find that chic vintage or handmade piece that will add an extra edge to my wardrobe. Secondhand items tell a story that other pieces cannot. When I am not sporting a vintage cheetah print jacket or hand me down cashmere, I will probably be found in something structured and black, because I know that it will never go out of style. No matter what people say, black will always be the most fashion-forward color.

No one can go wrong with a black jumpsuit or a basic T-shirt matched with ripped black skinnies and some classic booties. Although I am a college student, I refuse to let my style take a hit. Sometimes it is hard to muster up the energy to think about an outfit in the wee hours of the morning before class; however, I strongly believe that everyone’s personal style is a part of him or her and should be showed off all the time.

My two fashion goals include becoming a buyer for a major Manhattan department store, i.e. the four B’s: Bloomingdale’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and Bendel’s, and to own all the classic accessories: a Hermès’ Jane Birkin Bag, a vintage Quilted Chanel handbag and a Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk. I truly believe that this combination, along with my family and friends, are the keys to my happiness.

Come along for the ride that is now my life as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru by checking out my page and keeping up to date on my articles. Style Gurus in the past have inspired me and I am more than excited to reciprocate!
