Hey Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Ellenina, and I’m super pumped about beginning my first semester as a Style Guru. I’m a freshman at Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta. Though I’m an art major currently, I plan on switching my major to journalism and transferring to Parsons in New York to combine my passions of fashion and journalism. I was very lucky to have done a summer program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and that experience (along with watching too much Gossip Girl) has really inspired me to move to New York as soon as possible, (hopefully in the next two years, but we will see where life takes me).
Walking around the city with my friends and taking pictures for Instagram, thrifting, getting tattoos, and literally wasting my money on expensive foods are among some of my favorite things to do. I am also very involved in social justice movements, and human rights are a significant part of my life. I try to always be a part of important peaceful protests and social media movements when I can and encourage my friends to do the same.
I would describe my personal style and wardrobe as a combination of edgy masculine pieces that I typically find in secondhand shops or thrift stores and ultra-feminine, but minimalist pieces. I’m always trying to challenge myself to combine unexpected and unconventional styles to create an outfit that is entirely me, but also a little bit Rihanna.
Atlanta rarely gets very cold during the winter, and I love this because I can bring my favorite sandals into this season. Pairing socks with sandals was always a look I thought was a “no-no,” but as I’ve gotten to experiment more with fashion, I realized this look was edgy, fun, and hid my un-pedicured toes from everyone! I got recently got studded sandals and have been loving them with sparkly socks. I have been living for chokers (who hasn’t), and this denim choker adds a more modern twist to the ’90s look. I love rocking lots of hardware, as shown here with my studded shoes, studded jeans, and heavy hardware belt. I think balance is important in any outfit, and the floral embroidery in my shirt helps tone down this grungy look.
I’m so stoked about cultivating some style inspiration for you guys and for myself from around my campus. Now that you know a little about me, make sure to follow my social media platforms and check out my articles each month! And remember to always love yourself, laugh a lot, eat yummy food, and to be RAD!
