Hello there, my name is Elle Ashworth and I am a sophomore at Philadelphia University who is excited to begin my journalism career with this internship. While I am originally from Michigan, Philadelphia now holds a special place in my heart and I cannot see myself anywhere else. I love the individuality that everyone displays in their style and clothing choices here in Philly and am so excited to share that with you all this semester.
Ever since I was young, I have been interested in fashion, and was always very stubborn about what I would let my mom dress me in (before I could dress myself, of course). She has worked at the Gap for as long as I can remember, so I grew up with some knowledge of retail and always had that connection to fashion.
When I was thirteen, I discovered Tavi Gevinson’s first blog, Style Rookie, and became an avid reader. Tavi inspires me and helped me to figure out what I want to do with my life. She is part of the reason why I’m studying fashion merchandising at school, but focusing it into fashion journalism. I am in awe of her many accomplishments ranging across different forms of media, before turning 20! To this day I still follow and adore Tavi and aspire to be successful enough to one day lunch with her and compare thoughts and ideas.
I spent high school exploring different styles and trends in order to find the ones that were most befitting of my lifestyle. Two of my go-to accessory staples are Warby Parker glasses and a Cambridge Satchel bag. I have a small collection of glasses all different shapes and sizes that I alternate wearing, depending on my outfit. While my preference for all-black clothing stays the same, my style on a day-to-day basis will change slightly depending on my mood. One day I will decide to go for an edgier, punk look and another day I will be more inclined to wear something classy and girly. My absolute favorite store is Madewell (where this jumpsuit is from). I love how I can find simple staple pieces and also more intricate and unique quality-made garments here.
That’s enough about me though, I look forward to introducing you to the many Fashionistas/os that populate my campus, thanks for reading!
