Hey there, fashion fans! I’m Ellyn DeLisle, and I currently attend the University of Akron as a junior. I’m a Fashion Merchandising major with a minor in Marketing, and loving every minute of it. I’ve been obsessed with fashion ever since I was a little girl. I was constantly playing dress up and could always be seen wearing my favorite pair of sparkly jeans. When those became so worn, they ripped, I cut them into shorts, and was back in business. Once my mom finally decided it was time to throw them out, I discovered my newly created favorite item: a sparkly jeans short purse.
Although at age 10 I went through a phase of my favorite color being black, my style has since evolved by experimenting with various colors and fashions. Describing my style is challenging, because I like to incorporate divergent elements into my outfits. It really all depends on the day and what mood I’m in. I tend to draw inspiration from around me, such as artwork, magazines and people. I absolutely love pieces that have a Bohemian flavor to them, like my hat. My favorite pieces include simple dresses, comfy cardigans, necklaces, from nostalgic to nouveau and remarkable rings.
I have always been a penny pincher. Although I act like a small child on Christmas when I buy new clothes, I hate spending the money for them. I love finding a great bargain and try to be conscious of spending when I shop.
There are many career paths to consider when I graduate, and that is just one of the things I love about my major. I have found that fashion has a significant impact on society, and I enjoy learning about the history of dress. Pieces of clothing become reenergized for a new generation of Fashionistas. A recent come back is the crop top. It was first popular in the ’80s, evolved in style during the ’90s, and has become popular once again over the past couple of years.
I cannot wait to express my love of fashion by sharing the unique, creative trends around my campus in Akron, Ohio. I am so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista and I hope you all enjoy reading my articles. Be sure to check out my posts every month!
