Hello Fashionistas/os! I’m Emily Brozyna, a senior broadcast journalism student at Penn State University. I’m really looking forward to taking on this role as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru, where I’ll be capturing street style photography on campus and writing about my findings!
Style, to me, is a reflection of a person based on their appearance and tastes. My style is eclectic and evolving because it changes with the trends, depends on the city, alters with my mood and adapts to the season. I’m typically darkly dressed all winter, but I bring out fun colors and patterns when summertime hits. When has bright pink not looked killer against a tan, right?
Something about my style that’s consistent is my attraction to gold jewelry. I even have to remind myself to give my very small silver collection some love from time to time. Lately, I’ve been really into wearing a dainty necklace and stacking on a ton of rings. There’s one ring that I wear almost every day. Every time I look down at it, it reminds me of the city I bought it in. It’s great when jewelry makes a statement, but it’s better when it tells a story.
I think my love for shopping began around the same time I learned how to draw a circle around the things I wanted in the Toys “R” Us holiday catalog. From there, I moved on to blowing the money my grandma gave me on things like *NSYNC lip gloss from Claire’s and glittery puppy tees from Limited Too. I’ve grown to love different stores throughout the years, but the satisfaction of a great purchase is the same no matter where I shop.
Although nothing compares to the experience of shopping at one-of-kind boutiques, Zara and Urban Outfitters will always have my heart. As a college student, I don’t shop too frequently. I am oftentimes hurriedly tearing through my friends’ closets at the last minute, rather than pleasantly sifting through racks.
Last spring, I studied abroad in a place where fashion floods the streets – Florence, Italy. Being surrounded by effortlessly chic Italians every day got me paying extra attention to street style. Whether I’m in the market for new boots or a pair of sunglasses, I always look online for inspiration. It’s exciting to think that I’ll now be able to spread some outfit inspo myself through this semester-long street style search!
