Hi loves! My name is Emily Ciavatta and I am so happy to be returning as a Style Guru for my fourth semester. I’m a junior at Monmouth University studying Communication with a love for music, writing, creating, and, of course, fashion. Someday I hope to move to New York City and combine my degree with one of these passions.
2016 was a big year for me (and my personal style), so I am entering this new year with both an open mind and a positive attitude. I am also extremely eager to see what it will bring for the fashion industry. Clothes are the number one way in which I express myself, and I have seen my style evolve vastly in these past 12 months. I can only imagine what another 12 will do for it.
Day to day, week to week, and especially month to month, my style changes. I like to think that my style is pretty eclectic, pulling inspiration from various people and places and incorporating both new and old pieces into my wardrobe and everyday looks. This year, I discovered my love for thrifting. And honestly, I think it was my highlight of 2016 (mostly because I was able to continue shopping on a college student’s budget). Shopping secondhand is so important, and it’s also a ton of fun!
In this look, I combined some of my favorite trends to create a minimal, everyday look. I’m currently obsessing over turtlenecks, long peacoats, loafers and glasses, which are all featured in this outfit. As a thrifting connoisseur, I had to include at least one vintage piece, which in this case is my Calvin Klein sweater that I actually found at my local Goodwill. Thumbs up for shopping smart and helping the environment!
I’ve always been one to trust my gut, and I just know that 2017 is going to be a big year for the CollegeFashionista community and the fashion industry as a whole. As a Style Guru and lover of a fashion, I am so excited to see what this journey will look like.
