Hello, darlings! My name, once again, is Essence (like the Magazine) Murray, and I am pumped to embark on my second semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I am a junior study Advertising at Temple University and I have recently added a Psychology minor to my belt.
When people ask me why I chose to major in Advertising, I usually say because it combines my creativity with my analytical ability. In advertising, we are taught that we have relate to people creativity, whether that be through visuals or copy. We must communicate a message to our target audience and through analytical planning, we must aim for them to receive this message. Psychology is the study of the mind and human behavior. Psychology is used to understand individuals and because advertising is meant to speak to the individual, a minor in this could be very helpful to me in the future of my field.
I have always had big dreams for the glamorous life of working for a big fashion company in New York City, but alas I am not a designer and was not able to go to design school. Although, when I discovered my interest for advertising, marketing and PR, I realized that those were all important parts of the industry. I aspire to one day work for a fashion company in the advertising department and I am content with my choice to go to Temple University and study Advertising and Psychology. I am thrilled to explore my highly diverse campus full for prospective Fashionistas/os for me to document in my articles. If you see me on campus with my camera, say “Hi” and don’t be shy if I stop and ask you to take a picture for my blog. Look out for my articles every month!
