Hello, fashionable people! My name is Fifi Oginni and I’m brand new to the Style Guru scene. I’m a sophomore at Miami University, studying Business Marketing with a minor in Fashion Studies/Design. A little about myself- I’m zany and mellow with a personality that reflects my style. I’m obsessed with television culture and my life is not complete without a new TV show or beauty trend to latch unto. I wear my choker at all times, I’m a frequent traveler, an avid shopper and I watch more than my fair share of hauls on YouTube.
As well as being a fashion/beauty junkie and a new blogger, I am also a fashion designer. From as early as four years old, I’ve maintained stacks of notebooks filled with fashion drawings translated to strangely stitched up “dresses” for my Barbie’s. As a young college girl, I’m trying to turn this lifelong passion into a constant reality. I released my first fashion collection, “Girls On Film” in the spring 2016 on the MUFD (Miami University Fashion and Design) runway.
Being a Nigerian-American, I was brought up experiencing a wonderful mix of vibrant, traditional Ankara designs with trendy, classical western wear. Learning that styling two cultures could work well interchangeably and meshed together. In a broader sense, I’m not afraid to mix up looks. Whether it’s styles between cultures or generations. Why not wear a West African dashiki with distressed boyfriend jeans and strappy sandals? Or a goddess neck bodysuit with an over knee length circle skirt and flatform wedges? I believe that whatever inspires your outfit doesn’t have to work exclusively- it should work to your taste.
I find that a lot of my style and design is influenced by my taste in movies and music, my mom’s contemporary style, my Nigerian heritage and my love of retro fashion and modern ideas. In the simplest terms, my aesthetic can be defined as “classic-contemporary.” A friend describing mine as, “Dianna Ross and Traci Ellis Ross window shopping through Saks.” I love to look into different aesthetics and claiming a beautiful, unique and artistic brand to an individual style. That no matter what you throw own, you find a way of pairing it, styling it, shaping it- just to feel at home in that look. My looks are dynamic and varying, and I’m so excited to share what makes them.
Whether it’s a ribbed maxi dress on Monday, distressed jeans on Tuesday, all black on Wednesday or a nude toned jumpsuit on Thursday, be sure to follow my blog and my Instagram to see where the week takes my wardrobe and the people who inspire it. I’m so excited to share the creative culture of my campus with you! Let our journey begin…
