Hello CollegeFashionista! My name is Filio Giannakaris and I am an undergrad at Rutgers University. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I have a feeling it’s going to be totally RAD.
I am an English major and psychology minor and as an active reader of mythology. I always try to make my outfit magical and emphasize my mood of the day. I grew up in New Jersey most of my life but I moved to Europe for four years which definitely impacted my sense of style and wardrobe. I believe Europeans put great effort into their outfits and I have incorporated this in my everyday attire. With each season I coordinate the appropriate outfit, but my favorite season is summer because I enjoy going to the beach in a bright colored bikini or fancy one piece. My go-to colors are usually neutral and whenever I have difficulty putting an outfit together I stick to the “little black dress” because I can either make it very casual with converse and a colorful kimono or elegant with a diamond choker, multiple bracelets and chic stilettos.
A quote I live by is from legendary Ralph Lauren. He said, “Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever…” and I completely agree. Since fashion is a way of expression, my outfit usually gives some sort of insight of who I am and my beliefs. Trends will come and go, and I enjoy expressing myself with my own personal taste as well.
