STYLE GURU BIO: Gabrielle Martinez

Hey y’all! I am a sophomore at Mississippi State University studying Fashion Design and Merchandising. I have always wanted to be a fashion designer ever since I was a little girl. My favorite thing to do was play dress-up and not much has changed since. I am in love with my major and cannot wait to see what my future holds!

As soon as I came to Mississippi State, I knew I wanted to get involved with extra-curricular activities. I am involved in many clubs and organizations, a few of my favorites being MSU Fashion Board, my sorority and Young Life. Most of my time is spent either in class or at a club meeting but when I’m not at school or doing homework, I am usually doing something artsy. I like to draw, paint or attempt my latest Pinterest DIY project. I love any opportunity to be creative, which is why I am so drawn to fashion. Along with art, I really enjoy being outside. I find so much beauty in nature—God is truly amazing. I love to run and hike through the trails at the local wildlife refuge near my school. It’s a peaceful place to unwind after a busy week. Lastly, my absolute favorite thing to do is shop (surprise, surprise)!

I love to shop, probably more than what is healthy. My style is inspired by my hometown, Nashville, Tennessee. It’s trendy but always has a classic Southern touch. I shop everywhere from popular stores, to small boutiques, to local thrift stores. When I can’t find what I am looking for, I make it. When it comes to shape, I am drawn to classic silhouettes. I love bright colors and prints but also appreciate the simplicity of neutrals. My inspiration, Coco Chanel, once said “Simplicity is the keynote to all true elegance.” In this look I decided to keep things cool and light with a white tank top and pin-striped joggers. My Michael Kors leather embellished shoes add some bling and coordinate with my brown Fossil leather cross-body bag. My jewelry is simple with a thin kate spade animal print metro watch, a pearl bracelet and several thin gold chain necklaces.

I am very excited for this opportunity as a Style Guru. Follow me through this RAD semester as I capture the latest fashion trends, tips and inspiration from my campus.
