Hello everyone! My name is Gillian McLarty, and I am a second year student at Northeastern University. I am a business administration major, concentrating in marketing. I’m so excited and honored to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and share my love of fashion with you all!
Growing up, I was fascinated with the idea that I could express myself with the clothes I wore. At nine years old, I doodled images of dresses and skirts and announced to my family and friends that I wanted to be a fashion designer. I continued this dream when I headed to a fashion boot camp as a 14-year-old and participated in a small fashion show during Philadelphia Fashion Week. Once I let go of the dream of being a fashion designer, I still wanted to keep fashion a part of my life. I joined fashion club in high school and ended up being co-president during senior year.
I would describe my style as simple and classic, with a dash of bohemian. Comfort is really important to me, but I also like looking polished and put together. Although I like to stick to neutral colors such as black, gray and white, sometimes I like to break out bold colors too, like this outfit! Touring Chicago on a cool summer day, I paired these patterned pants with a bright colored top. I added my classic white watch, white pearls and a silver pearl bracelet. I also wore my silver high school class ring, which I wear with most outfits. Finally, I added blue sandals and a pair of black aviator sunglasses.
After spending my first year at Northeastern, I have appreciated all different styles and take them into account when deciding on an outfit. Observing others take fashion risks inspires me to expand my sense of style as well. I am so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista and hope you come along this journey with me!
