STYLE GURU BIO: Halee Michel

Hey guys! My name is Halee and I’m studying Marketing and Advertising at Michigan State University. I’ll be honest with you, I did not always have an interest in fashion. My mom, however, was the epitome of it. I always admired her for having the best sense of style. Always chic and accessorized, she embodied what I thought the perfect woman should dress like. Growing up as a tomboy, I was the complete opposite of my sophisticated mother. I was not chic, nor did I even think of accessorizing.

My naïve sense of oversized jeans and distressed shirts definitely did not go to waste. It provided the perfect building blocks towards developing my own style. I love incorporating oversized, and sometimes masculine, pieces to add dimension and comfort to my day-to-day style. A silk blouse and boyfriend jeans are a perfect example. The juxtaposition is a combination I will never fall out of love with.

My relaxed approach to fit also aligns with putting outfits together. No matter the season, layering is always the answer. In the drawn out Michigan winter, my outfit equation involves button-downs with wool sweaters; the fall brings heavy knits, leather jackets and simple T-shirts. Dresses are the perfect pieces to wear during the spring and summer. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect T-shirt dress. They’re the easiest way to look effortless and put together, which is the ultimate goal.

Accessorizing, I will admit, is not my strong suit. I am a self-proclaimed minimalist when it comes to jewelry, but I can appreciate a nice watch when I come across one. I count makeup as an accessory. It can add to an outfit just as much as a statement necklace. A bright lip color with a cat eye is my ultimate combo. I always feel like I can take on the world with a swipe of burgundy on my lips and jet-black eyeliner.

I am over the moon excited to blog my summer away for CollegeFashionista. I hope my articles inspire and motivate you to express yourself and enjoy everything that fashion has to offer.
