Hello lovely people! My name is Haley Shaffer and I am a student at the University of Iowa, double majoring in sports and recreational management, as well as, communications. I just finished up my sophomore year here at Iowa which is insane, if I do say so myself. It still feels like just yesterday I was a brace-faced, awkward tween. Yet here I am today, chasing my dreams while attending my dream school.
I know for a lot of people Iowa probably wouldn’t be their definition of a “dream school,” but it has always been the place where I wanted to spend my four years of college. When I was a senior in high school, I was so certain that I wanted to be a Hawkeye that I didn’t even apply to any other school. There’s a certain feeling that Iowa City gives you that no other city has ever given me in my life. Nothing beats spending a Sunday afternoon on a picnic blanket at the Pentacrest with your best friends.
The atmosphere of Iowa is always so alive and vibrant. The best part of the year is hands down football season (shoutout to last year’s 12-0 season). While I can be a bit of a girly-girl, I honestly could watch football all day, especially when it’s my Hawks are tearing up the field. My love for sports is what encouraged me to major in sports and recreational management.
When I first arrived at Iowa, I was a pre-business major and I was set to graduate with a degree in marketing. I soon realized that math is hard and I am not good at it, so I switched into communications. Majoring in communications is great for me, because it’s so versatile and I’m constantly flipping new ideas around in my head of what I may want to spend the rest of my life doing. I’m also just obsessed with communicating which is probably what fueled my liking of social media so much. Being able to have a creative outlet is really important to me. I’m addicted to writing and taking pictures, so it’s cool to be able to share those things with people. I get inspired by almost everything, so I always have a camera in arms reach.
I’m super excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista and for all of you lovely people to get to see the people and things that inspire me. Maybe along the way I’ll inspire you! Can’t wait for this summer, it’s going to be #RAD.
