Hi pretties! My name is Haley Shaffer, and I am now a junior at the University of Iowa. I am majoring in communication studies and minoring in sports and recreational management. I was a Style Guru over the summer, and it was so RAD I decided to stay on the team for this upcoming fall semester.
It’s sort of hard to fathom that I’m a junior already. Living in Iowa City and going to school here at Iowa has been an incredible time so far, which I’m sure most of you can also say for your college experience. I’m from a small town in Iowa called Marion. I grew up a diehard Hawkeye with six alumni in my family. Bonding in my family consisted of gathering around the nearest television and watching either Iowa basketball or football while stuffing your face with endless amounts of hot dogs and burgers.
My family being such huge fans of sports is a part of what lead me to choose to minor in sports and recreational management. Nothing beats the feeling of being on a team or the environment that comes with sporting events. I currently work for the university in the athletic department, specializing in event management. It’s a pretty neat job with some pretty great perks, so I can’t complain.
While I do have a sporty side, I’m also a complete girly-girl. Fashion, shopping, make-up; they’re all stuff I’m obsessed with. That’s what lead me to join the CollegeFashionista team. Being able to combine those obsessions with social media is such an awesome opportunity that I just could not resist.
I have had the opportunity to meet so many people from so many places through this internship. I have been able to follow so many fellow Fashionistas on Instagram and get inspired by how creative and unique they all are. I can’t wait to meet even more amazing people this semester and grow with my gurus!
