Good afternoon CollegeFashionista readers! I am super excited to be sharing my musings on the fashion world this semester. I am from Richmond, Virginia, where I am in school studying fashion. I have loved fashion ever since I was a little girl—I used to try to skip school so I could work on my fashion sketches in elementary school. Safe to say, I cannot image studying anything but fashion. Even the boring business aspects interest me. I am fairly addicted to fashion.
Richmond provides a very unique blend of personalities and cultures. It’s a great city (recently I heard rumored that in the next 10 years it is to be the new Portland!?) filled with food, shopping, history and a love of art. Virginia Commonwealth University is a school where just about anything goes. We do have Greek life, complete with typical Southern Greek styled students, however, on a daily walk around campus, I pass students with green hair, blue hair, half green half blue hair, authentic vintage ’40s dresses…sweatpants, thrifted clothes, designer dresses…T-shirts, pajamas, luscious fur coats …you name it, I see it everyday, in every combination. The always changing cultural scene continues to provide me with fresh inspiration for rather adventurous fashion selections.
This also goes to support my firm belief that one can never really be overdressed. My favorite thing in the world is when I can see peoples’ distinct personality from the way they dress. As for myself, my personal style is all across the board, especially depending on the weather. I go through phases, normally in the winter, where it is all-black everything with dark matte lipsticks and high heels. That or big faux fur coats, leather leggings and big chunky sweaters I scoop from local thrift stores. Then as the weather changes, it might be my favorite vintage Calvin Klein cut off shorts, clingy crop tops and flannels. I really have no consistent fashion “style” however, I land somewhere in a non-existent category I will call boho-faux-glam-thrifted-chic.
In my free time, I love pouring over fashion magazines and reading good books. I am pretty into photography and I have two film cameras along with my digital camera. If I am not traveling, you can probably find me catching up over coffee with friends or hunting for some deals at the mall. Besides that, I tend to spend as much time as possible outside, hiking and enjoying nature.
The photos included with this post are from a recent outfit I wore to a local fashion show. It was a super fun evening, so the apparel had to match.
