Hello! My name is Hannah Overbeek and I’ll be a freshman at Columbia College Chicago this fall. I’m studying Fashion Business and Photography and I plan on pursuing a career in one of these two fields. This is my first time writing for CollegeFashionista and I’m really excited to have the opportunity to share my style and perspective with an audience!
I was born and raised in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan and couldn’t have asked for a better place to grow up. Grand Rapids is a great city for art, dining and whatever else you’re interested in. It has also played a large role in my interest in fashion and photography. Much of my free time is spent walking the streets of downtown Grand Rapids in search of interesting people and photo opportunities. Moving to Chicago for school is a great continuation of this because of the city’s vibrant, creative atmosphere.
I’ve been interested in fashion for quite a while now. It started as an interest in fashion design but transitioned to an interest in the business side of things. My style inspiration comes from many places but some of my biggest style inspirations are street style blogs (I love Style Du Monde and Vanessa Jackman), Olivia Lopez of Lust for Life and Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit. My personal style is difficult for me to pin down but I tend to favor a simple, slightly edgy, urban look. I love pieces like this adidas T-shirt dress and these crazy gold shoes and sunglasses.
Fashion and photography have always been closely connected to me and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to combine my love of both fields as I explore the city, scout out amazing looks and document them to share with you.
