Hey everybody! My name’s Harley and I study international fashion promotion at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). I am so excited to be starting my first semester as a Style Guru and can’t wait for how the next few months will unfold. As a fashion student, I’m excited to improve my photography skills and explore the amazing world of street style through subcultures. I can’t wait to show you guys the campus trends at MMU because we have a very specific look.
I always knew I would end up studying fashion because it’s something that I’ve grown up with and love very much. When I was young, I used to look at Harajuku girls and dream of being one. Now, I have a vast knowledge on subcultures, high fashion, and the inner workings of the business. My real passion is in magazines and photography because I am a serious hoarder of different magazines including i-D and Vogue.
Not only do I love fashion but also going to festivals during the summer. Festival fashion is my ultimate favorite. There is just so much glitter and if you know me, you know I’m a glitter fan. Everything about festivals is fun: being with friends, dancing, the clothes, the music, and the summertime atmosphere. I don’t believe in following trends, but the festival trend is one I hold close to my very glittery heart.
In three words I’d describe my style as ’90s, oversized, and urban. However, it changes as often as the weather and it really is effected by the weather, especially living in rainy Manchester. I take inspirations from everywhere including Rihanna, Clueless, i-D, and anything ’90s. Put simply, I just wear what I want and what I feel is right.
My ’90s aesthetic dominates this look with my velvet choker which is a staple piece I don’t leave the house without, and my striped culottes that have an awfully similar resemblance to pyjamas. However, the clear star of my look is the light pink Stussy jacket which I’ll always be in love with, because it immediately brightens up any outfit. If you aren’t a fan of pink, this outfit would go with any coloured jacket and can be styled however you like.
I hope you enjoy my article and can’t wait to bring even more pink into your lives!
