Hi there Fashionistas/os! My name is Harlie Pietrangelo and I am currently finishing up my freshman year at the University of Maryland College Park. I am majoring in Communications on a Public Relations Track, while also pursuing a certificate in Women’s Studies.
When I’m not in class I can be seen hiking a new mountain and as the future Secretary of the Terrapin Trail Club, I can say that my love of the outdoors is a major part of my life. Finding a way to be “backpacker chic” is a goal that I’m still striving to achieve, but when I’m not on the trail I definitely step up my fashion A-game in order to compensate for the time I spend in my hiking boots. My love of fashion and nature is reflected in my clothing and often earth tones are a staple in my pieces; however I’m not afraid to rock an edgier look from time to time.
I first became interested in fashion around the time The Devil Wears Prada came out in theaters. I wanted to have Miranda Priestley’s job and the style of Andy Sachs post-makeover. Of course, at the time the movie was released, I was just finishing up fourth grade, so I had neither the money nor the body to morph myself into my style icon. However, growing up with the DVD severely scratched from over-watching it, I realized that I could emanate some of the style while creating my own. I did not need, although I still desperately want, to own Oscar de la Renta. Instead I realized I could showcase who I was with eclectic pieces that truly reflect who I am as a person.
My own personal style would be classified as eclectic. On any given day I could be wearing a lot of leather, channeling my inner biker chick; on other days I can be found in floral dresses that say more princess than punk rock. Who says a girl can’t have it all?
I am excited to start this summer as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. Although I will not be on the University of Maryland campus this summer, I will be on the lookout for awesome on-break college style in my area. Connecting with the fashionable people around me this summer is a privilege. I’m exhilarated to take on this new adventure and I want all of you to come with me.
