Hayley Pontia here. I am beyond excited to say that I am officially apart of the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru! I will be documenting this fall semester through my many similar and varying outfit choices along with the help of inspiration from the streets of Oakland, Starbucks dates with my computer and photoshoots with my best friends.
Being able to use two of my loves, photography and writing, in my daily life is something that I look forward to immensely. No matter what creative medium I choose, fashion always finds a way back into my work. Because I like to always stay busy, I would describe my style as comfortably chic. I like to wake up and get dressed in 10 minutes, but also make it look like it took me an hour.
Since I’m starting my first semester at Pitt, I wanted to show you what I would wear on the first day of class. Don’t try to deny that you still don’t get excited showing off your best look even if you are in college now. I know you do. But have no fear, I picked an outfit that requires minimal effort just in case you wake up late for your (first) 8:00 a.m.
I try to live by the words of the great Beyoncé, “I woke up like this,” forever hoping I will look flawless. With just a couple of pieces in your closet or maybe even a T-shirt you wore to bed, you could appear effortlessly cool.
I believe that the clothes you wear are an expression of your personality. If you’re adventurous, you should have an adventurous wardrobe to match it! Although I will highlight a lot of variations of my style, it is always important to wear something only if it feels you. I’ve changed my style many times over the past years and know I will in the future. That’s the great thing about fashion: it’s always evolving and changing just like the person you are.
Clothes aren’t the only things that can define you though. Some of the best indicators of an awesome personality are the smile you wear and how you carry yourself. Make sure to find a balance between the two and never neglect one or the other so you can always have the perfect accessories to match.
For this outfit, I chose something that was a bit of a throwback. This skort reminded me of my elementary school days giving the outfit a fun and carefree vibe. I paired it with a striped crop top, showing only a little bit of skin, perfect for those hot, first few weeks of running around campus trying to find your classes. But, just in case you get cold during a lecture, you can always throw on a light denim shirt and still look stylish. Make sure you have your favorite sunnies and a comfortable purse or backpack to carry all of those notebooks and you’re set. Here’s to a great year!
