Hey, Fashionistas! My name is Heather McNew, and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. I am a sophomore at Kent State University and I am majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in marketing. I have known that fashion was my calling since the age of 14. I was always curious as to why people wore what they did and how certain items became a trend. Trend forecasting is an area of fashion that I have been really interested in.
My personal style can be a little all over the place. One day I will be wearing a dress with booties and a statement necklace, and then the next you can catch me in leggings and a flannel. Comfort is a huge part of my style. I also tend to break some of the “style rules.” I rock “blavy” often, and I am not ashamed of it! My biggest piece of style advice is to always wear whatever makes you feel like a million bucks. This could range from your favorite dress to leggings and an XL T-shirt.
In my free time, I love reading, hiking, online shopping, hanging out with my friends, and petting dogs. Dogs are my favorite animals, and I am constantly bragging and showing off pictures of my own. Criminal Minds is my current favorite show on Netflix.
For this look, I paired a black, faux leather, pleated skirt with a dark green, long sleeve blouse. I threw on some taller black booties and a plaid blanket scarf to keep me warm. I put some dark green tights on to pull the look together. I would wear this outfit for a girl’s day or dinner with the family.
I am so excited for this semester, and I hope you all stick with me for some of my favorite on-campus looks.
