STYLE GURU BIO: Jaclyn Riekert

I guess introductions are in order– Hi I’m Jackie, and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! I’m currently a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology studying Fashion Business Management with a minor in International Politics. Along with my College Fashionista internship, I’m also a social media and styling intern at Emporia Studios. I love being busy, and I’m so lucky that I can take on so many projects that I’m passionate about.

When I was younger, I refused to wear dresses or even dress up in the slightest. It’s funny how things turn out later in life. Dressing up is the highlight of my day now. I think the outfit you walk out the door in is a complete reflection of who you are and what you want to represent. I think it’s so important, and I think about this every time my friends are angrily texting me because I’m late to a party because I can’t decide between the blue sandals or the black espadrilles. Every Style Guru’s been there right?

I’m often inspired by runway shows, street style, and Tumblr. At this moment in my life, I’m completely infatuated with Valentino’s fall 2016 Couture collection, which my sister describes as “pilgrim chic.” I love to make mood boards of my favorite shows and looks I spot on Tumblr. I’m a very visual person, and I think that’s why I connect so much with fashion. When I see someone on the street wearing a perfect outfit it’s modern art to me; like candy for my eyes.

My style is very eclectic. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of shopping at thrift stores, and my style has definitely reflected that. I’ve been wearing a lot of pieces inspired by past decades like the 1960’s through the 1990’s. I usually mix those pieces with trendy modern pieces of today. My current must-have’s are hoop earrings, skinny scarves and blue jeans. I’ve featured all of these pieces in this look– yes the jeans are thrifted Levi’s and yes they were only four dollars! If anyone is in dire need of a thrifting buddy I’m your girl!

In conclusion, I’m so grateful CollegeFashionista has provided me with another platform to express my love for fashion on because honestly I was running out of social media sites to join. I have so many ideas for this semester, and I can’t wait to share them all with you.
