Hello there! My name is Jasmyne, and I’m ecstatic to be back as a Style Guru for my second semester. I currently reside in sunny southern California, attending California State University Long Beach where I am majoring in fashion merchandising.
Back when every girl was spelling out the word bananas to Gwen Stefani’s big hit Hollaback Girl, I was covering my eyelids with a bright lavender eyeshadow, throwing on my knee-high socks to go with my bedazzled denim shorts, and grabbing my favorite bright pink T-shirt that I picked out from the popular tween store Limited Too. I had never felt more confident and at ease with who I was and, from that day forward, I knew I wanted fashion to be a part of my life. Even though you wouldn’t catch me wearing anything like my early ’00s pop star outfit today, I still live by the idea that you don’t owe style to anyone.
Style isn’t about throwing an outfit together based solely on the top trends everyone else is following. It’s about defining who you are by gathering pieces that represent your personality and showcasing that to the world without fearing what the world may think. Fashion is a creative outlet where you are the artist, your closet is your canvas, and rules don’t exist. Don’t be afraid to stand out or try something new, because the beauty of fashion lies behind your confidence!
Currently, my wardrobe is heavily influence by the ’70s with an edgy twist. I can’t get enough of bell bottoms, flashy prints, and bold colors. For this look, I paired my high waisted flared bottoms with an edgy black body suit. To contrast textures, I choose to wear my favorite faux fur jacket from Forever 21. Then, for the last touch, I added vintage inspired rings to complete my final look.
It has been an amazing experience to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and I am excited to see what will be in store for the next half of the school year. Cheers to a new year and new semester!
