My absolute favorite quote of all time is, “I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet.” Words uttered by a true fashion icon: Carrie Bradshaw. While Ms. Bradshaw and I are rather different people (for starters, she is a fictional character), this statement gives an extremely accurate glimpse into how I live my life.
My name is Jessica and I am currently a freshman at Iowa State University, majoring in Apparel Design with a minor in Event Management. I like to keep pretty busy, for the most part. In addition to being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, I also write beauty articles for my school’s fashion magazine and I am currently working on the Design Team for ISU’s annual fashion show. However, in my limited free time, you can find me sketching designs or binge watching Friends on Netflix.
My style is constantly changing. Depending on the day, you might catch me in an embellished blazer with a sleek pair of nude pumps, or the polar opposite: a comfy pair of leggings with an oversized plaid flannel. However, as you can see, today felt like a leather jacket and black booties kind of day.
Despite my ever-changing style, there is one aspect of my outfit that is consistent almost every day: a killer pair of heels. Being that I’m barely 5’3”, these are somewhat necessary for me (a few extra inches can help you get through life in more ways than one). Yet, even if I were taller, there’s just something addictive about the confidence that comes with strutting about your day in an awesome pair of heels. The booties I have on here are great because, not only do they add a solid five inches to my height, they’re also surprisingly comfortable.
I am also an avid supporter of the blanket scarf. As you can see, I decided to go with a simple lilac one that worked well with the gray jacket; however, my collection is extensive. These guys are amazing, as they add a fun fashion element to your outfit while also keeping you super warm.
What I love most about this outfit is that it’s simple, yet trendy. It’s a look that would work on anyone, and the pieces are classic, so they can easily be transformed into a whole new outfit.
I’m so excited to share my fashion sense with you and to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team this semester. Thank you so much for reading!
