Hey there Fashionistas! My name is Jessica McGettigan and I am a rising senior (sob!) majoring in Public Relations at East Carolina University.
Even though I go to school in the south, I am originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From living in both places, I have noticed a huge difference in styles from the north to the south which resulted in my personal style having influences from both regions.
I like to think of my style as a little bit of everything. I guess the best way to describe it is kate spade meets Marc Jacobs meets Alexander McQueen. A little preppy, girly, boho and a little edge all mixed together.
My love of fashion started as a little girl. I loved playing dress-up with my friends and even though I was very young, I would style their dress-up outfits! I vividly remember saying to one of my little friends, “you need the heels and the clip on earrings to go with that dress! It just doesn’t look right without them.” As I got older, I started subscribing to fashion magazines like Teen Vogue and InStyle. In my bubblegum-pink room, I had an inspiration wall where I would take images from the magazines I loved the most and taped them to the wall. As the seasons would change, so would the wall.
Although I loved fashion, I never truly thought that I would be able to pursue a career in the industry. However, I went on a Fashion Study trip to New York City this past fall with a group of girls from my university. We went around the Garment District and SoHo and got a personal tour through Macy’s Herald Square. It was on this trip that I realized exactly what I wanted and needed to do with my career: I needed to be in the fashion industry.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to share my love of fashion with you this summer, and to have the opportunity to connect with people who share my same passion. I look forward to sharing some amazing fashion with you and my fellow Style Gurus, and I can’t wait to be inspired by all of the fashion from around the country!
