What’s up, Fashionistas and Fashionistos? My name is Jessica Nguyen and I am a student studying Economics at Smith College. Although I will be graduating next year, I firmly believe that it’s never too late to start something new, so here I am writing my first post as a Style Guru for the fabulous CollegeFashionista blog.
Also, you are welcome to check out my own blog, Curiosity in Style, where I post my latest style experiments and other lifestyle-related musings.
Although I grew up as a small town girl in the Midwest, I knew that deep down, my heart was already sold to the vibrant city life (it would be a dream to be able to work and live in New York City one day).
My love for fashion stemmed from when I was very young. I remember dressing up in the frilliest skirts and dresses you can find back in the ’90s and quickly posing whenever one of those now antiquated film cameras came in sight. Since then, fashion became my fun, go-to creative outlet. If you don’t find me personally giving my friends style advice, you can expect that I will either be watching the latest YouTube videos of my favorite fashion influencers or sketching out runway-inspired designs in my sketchbook.
It’s true that I still embody the feminine style every so often, but now that I am older, I can experiment with different styles. My current favorite is classic meets edgy. Who doesn’t love living on the edge through fashion, right? On campus, you can usually find me rocking with one of these three pieces: a high neck crop top, aviator sunglasses or platform creepers.
When it comes to fashion, I don’t think there’s a specific set of rules that people should follow by and that’s what’s so great about fashion. My style may change over the years, but the personal journey of finding the right clothes to express myself is what really matters. So, here’s my tip for you- have fun taking fashion risks because it’ll be worth it!
