Hey trendy people, I’m Jewel Perkins! I am a junior at Missouri State University studying fashion merchandising and management with minors in advertising & promotions and communication studies! I’m from Kansas City, home of the greatest barbeque, and I just recently joined the 20s club. I’m a total Katy Perry fan and I have an odd obsession for pineapples. Lucky for me pineapples are totally trending!
As cliché as it sounds I’ve always had a passion for fashion, thanks to my mom. She’s had me stylin’ and trendsetting since 1996, and I give her all the credit for where I am now. My closet consists of about 50 percent Old Navy, about 40 percent bargain buys (I’d like to consider myself the queen of bargain shopping) and about 10 percent I-paid-full-price-because-I-could-not-pass-it-up purchases. I love to accessorize with chunky jewelry, fun shoes and hats. In these photos, I’m wearing just that. If I’m not sporting one of those, my outfit is not complete.
I work retail, and I absolutely love it. Call me crazy, but my favorite time of year in retail is the holidays, especially Black Friday; I love how busy the store gets and helping guests put together outfits.
As I mentioned, I’m a junior. That’s right, internship search time. My dream internships include the Gap Internship Program and interning for Red Dress Boutique, only my favorite online shopping boutique. Although those are my dreams, I am excited and open to whatever comes my way. Maybe I’ll go to New York and live out my Gossip Girl dreams.
What do I want to do after college? I have absolutely no idea. There are so many options in the fashion industry, and a lot of people do not realize that. People always assume I want to be a buyer, but there is a world of awesome careers out there for me. I’m exploring my options and talents by trying out anything that interests me, like becoming a Style Guru!
This is my first run with College Fashionistas, and I’m beyond excited to see where this opportunity takes me!
