Hello Fashionistas/os! I am Jillian Fierke and I am a junior at Illinois State University majoring in apparel design and merchandising. When I’m not in class or at the gym, you can find me at the mall rummaging through the racks of Nordstrom or at my mailbox not-so patiently waiting for last weeks’ online purchase to reach my door step.
Ever since I was little my passion for fashion was always shining brightly. Before I was even able to talk I was the pickiest child when it came to clothing. From the age of four on, I always insisted on dressing myself, whether it be a sequin tutu with cowboy boots or overalls with my favorite pair of ’90s jelly sandals. I never left the house in anything my parents picked out for me. I would be lying if I told you I’ve always had good taste in clothing or that my outfits always looked aesthetically pleasing. I mean, c’mon everyone went through their awkward phases in middle school. My wardrobe consisted of more Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister Co. than it should have and a few too many Juicy Couture track suits.
I would describe my style as being forever evolving. I am not one for sticking to a certain aesthetic or look when I am shopping or picking clothing items. You can see me rocking a flowered dress and a cute pair of mule booties one day and a pair of lululemon leggings, adidas and a leather jacket the next. My style is definitely all over the place, I will try any trend at least once. I love the bohemian glam looks and absolutely adore edgy-chic come nighttime. With that being said my style icons are pretty diverse, my favorites being Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez and Alexis Reneg. My go-to pieces for every look consists of a colorful lip with a #RAD pair of shoes.
My hopes for my future in the fashion Industry would be to potentially open up my own boutique or work my way up to being employed at the head office of any luxury brand. I would love to make my way out to California and hopefully start the path to my desired career on the West Coast. My goal as a CollegeFashionista is to broaden my views of different styles as well as bettering peoples’ outlooks on upcoming trends around campus! Fashion is more than just nice clothing put together in a pleasing way, I see it as a way of expressing oneself. Being able to see the way others chose to dress and the way it shows their personality is amazing!
Getting the opportunity to showcase trends I admire around Illinois State through CollegeFashionista is something I am looking forward to this semester!
