Happy summer, Style Gurus!
Hope everyone’s spring semester ended with straight A’s! My name is Joanna Del Priore and I am a returning Style Guru. Although this is my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista, my excitement for blogging about trends has not changed from when I first started in the fall! If you read my articles, you may know that I am a proud native New Yorker, who lives for the ample opportunities available in The Big Apple. You may also know of the amount of pride I have for my school, the Fashion Institute of Technology. This fall, I am entering my junior year as a fashion business management major with minors in math and economics. Although it is hard to believe that two years have gone by so quickly, I am excited to see what these next two years have in store.
My motto in life is to, “stand out in a sea of little black dresses.” In simpler, New York related terms, this means to wear vibrant colors and loud prints amongst those who are covered in black from head to toe. During my freshman year of college, I was complimented on my ability to pull off bright hues with prints that my peers would never think of pairing together. For my featured summer outfit, I wanted to showcase my colorful style and aesthetic that I have delivered to campus. Since school is no longer in session, the summertime is an ideal season to experiment with bold colors and prints that complement and define your personal style.
My primary focus of this outfit is my printed pants. Everything paired with these printed bottoms are meant to strategically match my choice of clothing, footwear and accessories. With that in mind, it is important to choose the printed piece first while creating your unique and iconic look. To bring out the pinks, greens, purples and whites in the pant design, I added small accessories and layers that match the colors within the print. I layered a cream lace top with a lime green camisole to top that off with a floral statement necklace that captures hints of lavender, teal and lime green. To not overdo color, I added a grey python cross-body bag to mix prints. Grey matches with anything as a python print is a fun summertime essential. To finish this look, I matched my bag to silver d’Orsay flats and completed the look with a light wash denim jacket. Although a second layer is not necessary, it maybe needed to keep warm on chilly summer days.
I look forward to writing about new and emerging trends on campus and around New York City. I hope that my articles provide you with outfit inspiration for not only the summer, but for seasons and occasions to follow. Keep on the lookout for a new post at the middle of each month! In the meantime, style on and enjoy your well deserved break!
