Hello, my name is Jocelyn Santos, and I’m currently attending AI in Orange County for fashion marketing and management. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and am excited to be part of the fashion-loving community.
Ever since I can remember, fashion has always played a major role in my life. My parents had the hardest time dressing me and taking me shopping because I was so particular. I always had a vision, and I wanted my outfits to express that vision. Whether I was dressing up for school, parties, church, anything, my look had to be perfectly “me.”
I am 38 years old and have gone through many phases of trends. Today, my style is a mixture of vintage, thrift, and bohemian, but mostly comfort. I am also known to mix and match patterns and accessorize. My rings are my weapons of fashion, and I never leave home without them. I truly feel that individuality is accepted more today than it was in the past when it comes to fashion. There is no wrong or right to it.
Today’s outfit was simply pulled together because I had been sick for the past two days and was happy to get out of my sweats and long sleeve thermal. The top is a white button-up collar shirt accessorized with a fringe bandana, which I designed. I turned the collar in, so the bandana can rest perfectly. I chose a pair of black and purple high-waist trousers that I have had for years. I purchased them years ago for a job interview, but found them to be a great addition to my wardrobe. As much as I miss wearing heels, comfort is extremely important, so Supras, Nikes, and Vans have become my go-to shoes. Today, I went for my Nintendo high-top Vans. I felt the were a great contrast against the design on pants. The bag I chose to complement my outfit is a green bag I found at a thrift store. I added patches collected throughout the year. I found it to be a great touch.
“We, as human beings, have the amazing capacity to be reborn at breakfast each day and say, ‘This is a new day. Who will I be?’” This is an inspirational quote about life by Jack Kornfield. I feel it’s the same with fashion. Each day we have the ability to express ourselves with what we choose to wear. Fashion is an extension of our personalities. It can be a whole outfit or just a statement piece. I am amazed by how something so simple provides us with a way to express ourselves, without even saying a word.
